Serving three generations at one go
The Singapore Zoo provides visitors – senior citizens, the middle-aged, teenagers, toddlers, etc. – with unsurpassed entertainment and education, making it excellent ground for families to bond. The Singapore Zoo is far more than a dignified exhibition of animals. It is an open classroom: it provides visitors with family-focused facilities and programmes such as talks, camps, workshops, animal shows and feeding shows. Incentives for senior citizensThe zoo’s communicative and interpretative exhibits are in English as well as Chinese. Given that 75 percent of Singaporeans are ethnic Chinese, the availability of Chinese-language explanations enable many elderly folk to understand the exhibits. This also motivates young adult Singaporeans to use the zoo as a recreational ground for their parents as well as children. And even for senior citizens without grandchildren, the zoo still serves as an enjoyable recreational area. Incentives for parents and kids, tooThe zoo’s communicative and interpretative exhibits also cater for adults as well as young children. The zoo has two sections, one called “Above Four Feet” and, the other, “Below Four Feet”. The “Above Four Feet” provides intensive information for adults whereas “Below Four Feet” provides children below 12 with cartoons, illustrations, diagrams, interactive buttons, nuggets of information, etc. Diversity of admission packagesTo encourage family visits, the zoo provides senior citizens and children below 12 with concessions. It also provides free admission to disabled visitors. In addition, the zoo offers a variety of admission packages such as “Friends of the Zoo Membership” and “Wildlife Unlimited Membership”. Family-friendly infrastructureThe zoo is continually adding to and upgrading its pro-family facilities. Examples of these facilities:
