The nation’s happiness at its heart
Singapore’s largest supermarket chain was created to help Singapore’s working classes buy reasonably-priced groceries in the early seventies. But now, it has evolved to serve families from all sections of society. NTUC FairPrice operates Singapore’s largest supermarket chain with a retail network of 153 outlets. It has implemented a wide-ranging set of pro-family practices and has also equipped itself with family friendly infrastructure to create a comfortable shopping environment for Singapore families. Serving the handicappedEach of the stores has been designed with wide aisles to ensure that customers on wheelchairs can move around easily. A wheelchair-friendly checkout counter has also been built at most stores. The majority of FairPrice’s double-storied stores are also equipped with a travelator to ease movement between the levels. In stores where it is structurally impossible to install a travelator, customers use the lift instead. Thinking of the eldersSeniors 60 years and above enjoy a two percent direct discounts on all purchases every Tuesday. FairPrice implemented this policy to encourage senior citizens who are still active, to shop for their families. Serving the very young onesAll supermarkets are equipped with a special corner called Baby Lane where a large selection of child-care related products (from milk powder to diapers) can be found. Baby Lane provides a convenient one-stop solution for busy parents. In addition, FairPrice holds the distinction of being the first store in Singapore to launch the Milk Advisory Centre – an interactive touch screen that provides shoppers with parenting tips and information on different types of milk. Furthermore, FairPrice presents all parents of newborns at seven participating hospitals with a bag filled with baby and mother-care products. A set of discount coupons also allows them to buy selected baby-care products from FairPrice at a special price. For more information on the NTUC FairPrice Group, click on www.fairprice.com.sg |
