Investing in pro-family infrastructure makes business sense

Singapore’s leading mall manager says that its pro-family approach to managing its malls has contributed to the bottom line of its tenants.

Shopping is an important activity Singapore families engage in together. That is why mall owner and manager, CapitaLand Retail Ltd., has invested substantially in creating family-friendly infrastructure to attract families to shop at its malls.

Contributing to the bottom line

Says Simon Ho, Chief Operating Officer, CapitaLand Retail Ltd., "The strongest evidence that our pro-family strategy works can be seen in the strong sales generated by most of our tenants in our malls… our focus on connecting with the local community makes good business sense because the bulk of our malls in Singapore are in suburban locations and serve primarily a local catchment comprising mainly families."

Creating the right environment

On what CapitaLand had done to create a pro-family environment, Simon Ho has this reply - "We've taken pains to ensure our malls are clean, safe and elderly- and family-friendly; and we also ensure every member of the family has something to enjoy whenever they visit our mall".

Says Ms. Looi Keng, Centre Manager, Tampines Mall, CapitaLand Retail Ltd: "We have an arts and craft corner at the Tampines Mall where kids can occupy themselves meaningfully while parents shop. We also lend shoppers wheelchairs and strollers at no charge, and our malls are also equipped with specially-built urinals for little boys and baby-changing rooms on all floors".

Attracting pro-family tenants

Besides these family-friendly facilities, CapitaLand malls also boast many family-friendly retailers such as Best Denki, Carrefour, Giant, Golden Village, Isetan, John Little, Kiddy Palace, McDonald’s, NTUC FairPrice and Seiyu.
